Find what must be eliminated

A report finds the trade between companies that must be removed from the group's figures.

What it does

The eliminations report lists the intercompany transactions to eliminate in the consolidation company.

When you need it: Sales from the factory to the sales company do not inflate the group's revenue.

How it works

  1. In every branch company, give each revenue account in the "Chart of Accounts" window the account type Sales. Do this before you consolidate.
  2. From then on, each intercompany sale that reaches the consolidation company carries an elimination flag, with the company it came from and the company it went to.
  3. In the consolidation company, open Financials › Financial Reports › Accounting › Document Journal, choose "Expanded" and then "User-Defined Fields", and select the row "Elimination" with the rule Equal and the value Y.
  4. In Form Settings, show the "IC Branch Code" (the company that started the transaction) and "To Branch Code" (the company that received it).
  5. The report now lists the group's internal sales, company by company. From it, post the elimination journal entries in the consolidation company.

Set it up

The only preparation is the account type: a revenue account without the Sales type is not flagged, and transactions posted before the type was set carry no flag. Before the run, Financials › Financial Reports › Un-posted Intercompany Transactions shows documents and allocation vouchers that a receiving company has not posted yet, so the two sides agree when you consolidate.

Good to know

  • Intercompany finds and marks the trade to eliminate; the elimination entries themselves are posted by your team from the report.
  • Sales and purchases between group companies run through business partners marked with a "Branch Partner Code", one customer and one vendor for each group company.
  • In each company, Reports › Intercompany › Intercompany Transaction Report lists what was sent and received. It is a log: whether a document arrived is checked in the message log.
