Master data replication
Share master data with the right companies only
Copy the items and business partners of a group, or chosen master data, to certain companies only.
What it does
Distribution templates send global business partners, items, bills of materials and price lists to the companies that need them, by item or business-partner group.
When you need it: Spare parts go to the service companies, not to the sales offices.
How it works
- Open Administration › Setup › Intercompany › Global Data Distribution. Enter a "Template Code", choose the "Object" (items, partners, BOMs or price lists), tick the branches that should get the data, and press "Add".
- Attach the template where records begin. On an item group (Administration › Setup › Inventory › Item Groups) or on a partner group (the "Vendor Group Control Accounts" and "Customer Group Control Accounts" windows), set the "Distribution Template Code".
- A new global item or partner in that group takes the group's code. You may change it on the record before you add it; bills of materials and price lists get their code on the record itself.
- When the global record is added or changed, Intercompany sends it to the template's branches only. A global record without a code goes to every branch company.
Set it up
The template code may be up to 20 characters long; choose one that means something to users. A template added in one branch company is copied to the other branches. The automatic global flag in General Settings and the windows "Set Item to Global Item" and "Set BP to Global BP" also apply the code held on the group.
Good to know
- A template cannot be deleted. When you edit one, you may add branches but not untick a branch saved earlier.
- Once a record is saved with a code, the code stays. A global record saved with no code cannot be given one later, so decide before you add it.
- The template always wins over the normal list of receiving companies.
- The current knowledge-base article also offers the chart of accounts as an object for a template.
